HANDMADE BATIK LASEM IS NOW ALSO MARKETED IN THE METAVERSE WORLD

Currently Lasem batik is not only marketed offline and online such as social media and marketplaces but has penetrated metaverse technology which can display products in three dimensions.

Through the metaversebatik.com portal, batik craftsmen have a 3-dimensional showroom, where batik products are displayed like workshops accompanied by manakins. The sale of this written batik was made by the Kedaireka Team of the Information Systems Study Program at Soegijapranata Catholic University Semarang since last August 2022.

Invited guests at the launch at Heritage Lasem's red house yesterday such as the Head of the Culture and Tourism Office Muttaqin, Head of the Communication and Information Service Factor Rahardjo, craftsmen and journalists were given the opportunity to try to enter the virtual workshop using virtual reality glasses.

The chief researcher of Kedaireka metavers batik Lasem Ridwan Sanjaya revealed that the platform intended for Lasem batik entrepreneurs was a grant from the government in the form of the Kedaireka program, the aim of which is to provide solutions and alternative ways of selling Lasem written batik products.

"We are trying to provide solutions on how to direct batik craftsmen to have alternatives. So apart from selling directly where we know that there were obstacles, both during the pandemic and now, they can also access roads besides using social media and marketplaces, as well one more thing can be added in the form of the metaverse, where this metaverse allows people to see real things in a real form in the 3-dimensional world.” This was conveyed by Ridwan Sanjaya, the head of the Kedaireka Information Systems Study Program.

People who want to enter metaversebatik.com can use cellphones, laptops, tablets or use reality glasses to feel like they are inside.

Meanwhile, one of Lasem's batik artisans, Rudi Siswanto, acknowledged that the metaverse platform is relatively new for batik craftsmen in Lasem.

SEMARANG, KOMPAS.TV – To help market batik products, especially Lasem batik, the Kedaireka Unika Soegijapranata Semarang team launched a new media introduction to batik products with the metaversebatik.com platform. By using virtual reality glasses, visitors can immediately see the 3-dimensional showroom which is made to showcase products. Head of the Kedaireka Metaverse Batik Lasem Research Team, Ridwan Sanjaya emphasized that the metaversebatik.com platform was launched out of concern for the decline in sales of Lasem batik products due to the recent pandemic due to the impact of the decline in visiting tourists in Lasem. Lasem batik itself was chosen because Lasem batik is seen as one of the favorite batiks in Indonesia. “Often, batik has to be folded so that people have to take it, open it, and squish it. Here it is possible to create a large space so that everything can be displayed," said Ridwan Sanjaya. The research team involved 15 Information Systems and Accounting Study Program students to help 40 UMKM batik artisans fill exhibition spaces free of charge at the metaversebatik.com showroom. The aim is to provide solutions and alternative ways of selling Lasem batik products.
