GADGET USERS ARE OFTEN IGNORE THE SECURITY OF PERSONAL DATA

In the midst of the rise of technology, there is one gap that is sometimes overlooked, namely the matter of data security in cyberspace (cybersecurity). This data security is very important to know, especially the younger generation so that there are no problems related to personal data or the like.

Unika Soegijapranata Semarang in collaboration with the Asian Youth Organization (AYO) held an international seminar entitled ASEAN Cybersecurity Skilling Program in the theater room of the Thomas Aquinas Building Semarang, Monday 12 November 2022.

Berangkat dari hal ini, Unika Soegijapranata Semarang bekerja sama dengan Asian Youth Organization (AYO) menggelar seminar internasional bertajuk ASEAN Cybersecurity Skilling Programme di ruang theater Gedung Thomas Aquinas lantai 3, Kampus Bendan, Semarang, Senin 12 November 2022.

The seminar presented Soegijapranata Catholic University academics and information technology practitioners by providing education to students and the general public.

The Head of the Informatics Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Computer Science Soegijapranata Unika, Rosita Herawati ST MIT who was one of the speakers stated that society, especially among young people, is important to understand literacy regarding data security in cyberspace.

This is necessary in order to build awareness to protect the various privacy data they have.

"They are actually in danger, it's just possible that at this time they are not aware of or care less about the importance of cybersecurity," said Rosita.

He considered, the theft of personal data in cyberspace is usually done by hackers via email. Ironically, platform users in cyberspace are often insensitive to this.

“Usually cases that occur regarding data theft in cyberspace are carried out via email. Unfortunately, users are not aware of or often ignore incoming notifications via email, so they are not detected earlier," he said.

The Head of the Information Systems Study Program, Faculty of Computer Science Soegijapranata Unika, Agus Cahyo Nugroho SKom MT also believes that literacy in cybersecurity is important for every digital device user. They need to be made aware so that they can better protect their privacy data which should be guarded and protected.

The Dean of the Soegijapranata Catholic University's Computer Science Faculty, Dr. Bernardinus Harnadi ST MT said, his party has two majors (Informatics Engineering and Information Systems).

The existence of this study program is expected to contribute to providing understanding to the public about the importance of data security in cyberspace.

Founder of the Asean Youth Organization, Senjaya Mulia stated, in a series of activities carried out, his party received support from the Asean Foundation and Microsoft. As for this seminar, the Asean Youth Organization cooperates with Unika Soegijapranata as a partner.

"We work together on a number of things, including providing training to trainers, including regarding data security. We want these trainers to be able to get other potential trainers to be able to join and be able to disseminate the knowledge gained," he said.

Meanwhile, the AYO Master Trainer Program, Asean Cybersecurity Skilling Programme, Caesario Kisty added, his interest in this activity was due to the compatibility of the vision to produce digital talent who are aware of the importance of data security.

"This is not just about data security, but has led to a lifestyle. So people don't think it's scary when they hear cybersecurity," he said.

According to him, digital device users are actually used to it, and even understand the operation of the devices used. Unfortunately, they are only limited to users, so they need to be made aware of the security aspects.
